24 Hour Golf & Nakedness

Deanwood 24 Hour Charity Golf Challenge (In the nude!)

Four intrepid golfers played non-stop through 24 hours of all weathers to raise over £4600 for charity last week. And just to spice things up even further in response to a cheeky offer of £300 they played one hole completely naked. Deanwood Park Golf Club was the venue for the marathon and fortunately the course was able to withstand all that the British weather could throw at it. Deanwood General Manager, John Bowness and his team of Kevin Holloway, Marc Gudgeon & Mark Brown took to the fairways at 7pm on Thursday night with a crowd of well wishers on hand under their brolleys. The early weather was horrendous and matters took a turn for the worse when the buggies both decided not to work in the dark and had to be reversed back to the clubhouse. The rest of the night was played on foot using luminous balls and glow sticks to light the way. The morning brought not only new buggies and sunshine but professional photographer Adam Hillier and his assistant Graham Chapple turned up at 5.30am to evidence the nakedness. “Adam was great and made the potentially terrifying experience a whole lot of fun. We actually got enough different shots that we may well produce a fun calendar to boost the sponsorship” said John Bowness. With their clothes back on and the sun shining the foursome ploughed on through the day receiving lots of visits from family & friends. A video blog from John on Facebook kept all the supporters entertained and up to date with progress and the donations continued to pour in. The rain came again towards the end of the day but with just a couple of hours to go nothing was going to stop them reaching the finish line. A huge welcome was waiting to celebrate and enjoy the achievement which raised the £4600 for The Newbury & District Cancer Care Trust who do such fantastic work for cancer sufferers locally and their families. Helen Milroy Trust Administrator said The Newbury & District Cancer Care Trust are very grateful to John, Kevin, Marc & Mark for the fantastic amount they have managed to raise from their 24 hour golf challenge. Under normal summer conditions, 24 hours of non-stop golf would be challenging, but the atrocious weather they had to withstand was beyond a joke. It would have been completely understandable if they had decided to cancel the challenge, but through sheer guts and determination, they persevered and showed their mettle! The money they have raised will help many West Berkshire Residents dealing with cancer and we thank them for their achievement. The page for donations remains open and will be for the next 3 weeks, to donate and boost the teams total go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/Deanwood24 . The calendar will be available very soon at a cost yet to be decided but an interest can be expressed by contacting John Bowness john@deanwoodpark.co.uk . The Deanwood 4 would like to express a huge thank you to all of the donors, the staff at Deanwood, Adam Hillier Photography and family & friends for their support throughout this event.
