Allan Snook RIP

Allan Snook - RIP 18th April 2016

It is with great sadness that Deanwood Park Golf Club must announce that creator & founder Allan Snook passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by family.

Having run other successful businesses next door to his house at Deanwood Farm Allan decided to venture into the world of golf course building and through 1993/94 he single-handedly led the construction of Deanwood Park Golf Course that opened in May 1995. He drove diggers, tractors & JCB’s himself and remained hands on through much of the clubs early years.

The club continued to improve as it matured with Allan always keen to make tweaks and additions. Despite the addition of bunkers, ponds, ditches, drainage and new trees the fundamental course that Allan built continues to stand the test of time and at the time of his retirement last year was as good as it had ever been. Indeed in 2014 the course was awarded the accolade of 2nd Best Short Course in the South of England, something Allan was immensely proud of.

Allan & Joyce Snook were daily visitors to Deanwood for all of the clubs 20 years and gave great support to club events. Allan will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all the golfers who played at some time or another through their own golfing journey on the course that Allan built.

Allans funeral will be at St Andrews Church, Boxford at 12.30pm on Tuesday 3rd May. Following the funeral there will be a private family burial. All our welcome to join the family at Deanwood Park Golf Club following the church service.

Family flowers only but donations can either be made in Allans name to the charities listed at Turner Bros Funeral Directors or to the memorial tree collection at Deanwood.
